The WELLTH Fund was launched by Discovery Health in 2023 as a once-off benefit, with the objective to provide an additional screening and prevention benefit to all Discovery medical aid members. We explain how you can activate the benefit and how it works.
The WELLTH Fund provides cover of up to R10 000 per family as a once-off benefit for day-to-day medical expenses such as dental and eye check-ups. If you are a Discovery Health member and have yet to activate the benefit, follow these steps:
1. Activate the WELLTH Fund by having the main member and all dependants (over the age of 18) on your medical aid policy complete an in-person health check at a Discovery Wellness Network provider such as a registered pharmacy or medical doctor. Feel free to utilise the support structure put in place to assist you with this process as explained below, especially if you are a Vitality member.
This health check will be (“FREE”) since it is covered by your screening fund with no obligated payment required by you or your savings plan, while Vitality members will earn additional points. Children (2-17 years) covered on your health plan can also complete an in-person health check during which they measure weight, height and waist circumference. If you are a Vitality member you can also complete the Vitality kids health review online, to activate your free Ster-Kinekor kids movie benefit. Once the whole family’s health checks or kids’ reviews have been completed, your benefit will be activated and the funds will be available to claim from. You can also view the details on the new Discovery Health app.
2. The value of the WELLTH Fund available to you is determined by the number of people covered on your policy and their age. The amount allocated to adults is R2 500 and R1 250 per child over the age of two years, up to a maximum of R10 000 per policy. Even though children younger than two years do not receive a fund allocation, they are still eligible to use the WELLTH Fund.
3. Once the benefit is activated, it can be used for the following*:
- GP consultation (one per person per year)
- Dental check-up
- Eye check-up
- Hearing check-up
- Skin cancer screening
- Heart consultation
- Lung cancer screening for long-term smokers
- Dietitian visit
- Biokineticist or physiotherapist visit
- Fitness assessment in Wellness Network
- Podiatrist visit
- Mental wellness check-up
- Bone density check
- Gynaecological consultation
- Prostate consultation
- Children’s wellness visit for appropriate developmental assessments with an occupational therapist, speech therapist or physiotherapist
4. Ensure that you use this once-off benefit before 31 December 2024 when it expires.

* Note that general scheme exclusions apply. Medication and ongoing treatment for a diagnosed condition is not covered. Members on the KeyCare Plus Plan must use their allocated KeyCare Network GP, dentist and optometrist. Members on the Smart Plan must use a Smart Network GP.
